My name is Torquil Macleod. I have always had a great interest in the arts. In secondary school I took art as a subject and from first to fifth year was awarded consecutively the first prize in art.

On leaving school art never featured in my career. In fact for thirty years I never took up any form of artwork. My complete five year school portfolio had gone missing when flitting from Glasgow to the Isle of Lewis and I was devastated. It was during a period in my life when I was feeling low that a close friend encouraged me to take an interest again and start painting.

I work in oils , watercolour and pastels. I don't have an identifiable style and can often be a ‘moody’ painter. The sea features a lot in my work. Atmosphere is important to me in what I do. ‘On the Slate’ is a range of random cut natural slate depicting artwork in oils.

My artwork is now being displayed in a small gallery based in Stornoway, Isle of Lewis. Please get in touch should you wish to visit.

Here are some examples of the current work being displayed in the gallery, just click an image to view in expand mode.
